The first weekend of the official British summer began last weekend, and with it came lots of exciting exhibitions and events. To kick it off early I visited an exhibition by the FEED HND Graphic Design graduates of Birmingham Metropolitan, at Free Range in the Truman Brewery.
It was refreshing to see such a large space filled with a range of different works, that included projections, screen-based designs, installations and 3D typography. Overall it was a very impressive show with exciting ideas combined with well-executed outcomes.
On top of this, on the Friday before, I was lucky enough to be invited to a private viewing of the Guerrilla Zoo: Modern Panic exhibition at The Old Abattoir in Angel.
The exhibition showcases the work of over 50 artists from around the world, including the prisoner Charles Bronson, taxidermy artist Iris Schieterstein and artist Alex Mazzitelli.
The controversial and surreal artwork was not for the faint hearted and the location was well suited to the selection of artists, that added to the overall experience. There were strong themes of sculpture, taxidermy, photography and performance pieces which certainly pushed the boundaries of modern art. The exhibition is on until 12th June and is well worth a visit.

And finally on the Sunday, I popped along to the ‘ISAM: Control Over Nature’ exhibition at The Crypt Gallery, St Pancras Church, by Amon Tobin and Tessa Farmer.
To mark the release of Amon Tobin’s new album ‘ISAM’ a collaborative installation has been put together with Tessa Farmer. The exhibition was a blend of Amon Tobin’s sound and Tessa Farmer’s intricately designed sculptures, constructed from insects and animal bones. The sculptures were beautifully crafted and perfectly lit, with spotlights in this dark and eerie location, which when combined with music, all these elements came together to create a truly sensory experience.

Control Over Nature @The Crypt looks awesome! I love the sound of Amon Tobin – I imagine his music goes really well with Tessa Farmer’s seemingly petrified sculptures!
