Mobile Life is live!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

We are excited to announce the launch of TNS’s annual Mobile Life study (our latest collaboration, integrated into the brand new tnsglobal.com, which we also made.)

Drawing on the behaviour, priorities and motivations of 48,000 people across 58 countries, Mobile Life is the largest study into mobile usage. It develops recommendations on activating business and marketing strategy via mobile.

To visualize this we devised an interactive map-based solution using colour to represent potential usage of apps and features on mobiles, supported by simple iconography and infographics to convey the global depth and breadth of the report.

Visitors to the site will get an overview of potential future users of mobile around the world and can uncover more by comparing countries and discovering key facts.

Make sure you check out the animation we created to complement and promote the study.

D&AD New Blood / Friday 1st July: Workshop @Digit

Monday, July 4th, 2011

A healthy sample of talented young graduates in illustration, graphic and digital design were invited to the Digit studio last Friday as part of this year’s D&AD New Blood festival. The afternoon involved an intensive workshop, in which participants were asked to come up with ideas based upon a single brief, which was to make Britons of all ages become sports obsessed in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics.

The students were given just two and a half hours to come up with a winning pitch, presented on 5 sheets of A3 paper, and then delivered to a panel of judges for 5 minutes each. After a long, hot afternoon of brainstorming and concept sketches, it finally came time to pitch them in front of a panel of industry heavies. Although nerves had been running  high, each group did incredibly well in selling their ideas to a highly opinionated and experienced panel, who eventually spent over half an hour deliberating over who would be the winning team.

The judging panel, which included representatives from Microsoft, Diesel and The Roundhouse, as well as our very own Creative Director, considered all the pitches to be of a very high standard. However, the winning team was announced on the day: A massive congratulations to Shinji Pons, Keir Ferne and Lilianna Kuang, each of whom will be invited back for a unique opportunity to discuss their portfolios with our Creative Director and other senior designers at Digit.

The whole afternoon was rounded off by celebratory drinks with Digit staff and judges who even managed to fit in a nail-biting performance of Fifa on the Studio X-Box before moving on to the Ten Bells for a well-earned pint.

Thanks again to everyone who made it such a memorable experience!

Summer of Art & Design

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

The first weekend of the official British summer began last weekend, and with it came lots of exciting exhibitions and events. To kick it off early I visited an exhibition by the FEED HND Graphic Design graduates of Birmingham Metropolitan, at Free Range in the Truman Brewery.

It was refreshing to see such a large space filled with a range of different works, that included projections, screen-based designs, installations and 3D typography. Overall it was a very impressive show with exciting ideas combined with well-executed outcomes.

On top of this, on the Friday before, I was lucky enough to be invited to a private viewing of the Guerrilla Zoo: Modern Panic exhibition at The Old Abattoir in Angel.

The exhibition showcases the work of over 50 artists from around the world, including the prisoner Charles Bronson, taxidermy artist Iris Schieterstein and artist Alex Mazzitelli.

The controversial and surreal artwork was not for the faint hearted and the location was well suited to the selection of artists, that added to the overall experience. There were strong themes of sculpture, taxidermy, photography and performance pieces which certainly pushed the boundaries of modern art. The exhibition is on until 12th June and is well worth a visit.

And finally on the Sunday, I popped along to the ‘ISAM: Control Over Nature’ exhibition at The Crypt Gallery, St Pancras Church, by Amon Tobin and Tessa Farmer.

To mark the release of Amon Tobin’s new album ‘ISAM’ a collaborative installation has been put together with Tessa Farmer. The exhibition was a blend of Amon Tobin’s sound and Tessa Farmer’s intricately designed sculptures, constructed from insects and animal bones. The sculptures were beautifully crafted and perfectly lit, with spotlights in this dark and eerie location, which when combined with music, all these elements came together to create a truly sensory experience.

Crack open the whisky, our new Glenmorangie site just launched!

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

We’re all jolly pleased to announce the launch of our shiny new website for Glenmorangie: Scotland’s favourite single malt whisky.

The Glenmorangie company is literally defined by the extreme lengths they go to make their whisky. From buying their own forest in Missouri in order to grow the perfect oak to traveling the world in search of the finest casks, it was these amazing stories that, through a series of films, animations, interactive elements, and good old fashioned words, we wanted to tell.

This has been a great project to work on from the moment we won the pitch back in March and, thanks to a fantastic client, we’re all very proud of the results.

Digit 'Follow Me' data visualisation tool

Follow Me – a new R&D project designed especially for the Digit homepage – is now live! It’s a data visualisation tool mapping local journeys that Digitees make around work. And no, despite many a sarcastic comment to the contrary, this is not a clandestine attempt to track the whereabouts of members of staff, thereby squeezing more productivity out of an already assiduous workforce. It’s just a little idea that visualises human behaviour.

Follow Me uses an app installed on your smart phone which reports back a GPS position at regular intervals during the day. Why not take a look for yourself?
